Terms of Service

Last updated: October 21, 2026

These Terms govern your use of Hashidari, the Japanese-learning app at app.hashidari.com and the website at hashidari.com (the "Service"), operated by Hashidari LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company ("Hashidari", "we", "us"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

1. Who can use Hashidari

You must be at least 13 years old, or the age at which your country lets you consent to an online service on your own if that is higher (up to 16), unless a parent or guardian consents on your behalf. You're responsible for making sure your use of the Service is legal where you live.

2. Your account

Using Hashidari requires a free account, created by verifying your email address with a one-time code. Before you create one, you can try a single sample lesson without an account. Its progress is stored only in your browser, and we can't recover it if it's lost. Keep access to your email account secure: anyone who can read your email can log in as you. You're responsible for activity under your account, and you should tell us promptly at support@hashidari.com if you think it has been compromised.

3. Free tier, free trial, and Hashidari Plus

  • Free tier. A free account can take lessons in the early part of the course, and can always review anything it has already learned, subject to daily limits.
  • Free trial. Each person can start one free 14-day trial of Hashidari Plus, running from when you activate it. A trial doesn't require a payment method and doesn't turn into a paid subscription automatically. When it ends, your account returns to the free tier unless you subscribe. Referral or promotional offers may add bonus trial days. Deleting your account and signing up again doesn't start a new trial.
  • Beta testers. If we invite you as a beta tester, you may get free Hashidari Plus for a set period. It ends on its own, nothing is charged, and your account then returns to the free tier with your progress kept.
  • Hashidari Plus is a paid subscription, billed through Stripe at US$6 per month or US$60 per year (¥900 per month or ¥9,000 per year in Japan), tax included, as you choose at checkout. It renews automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. If you subscribe during your free trial, your first payment is taken when the trial ends.
  • Cancelling. You can cancel at any time from Account → Billing, which opens Stripe's billing portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, and you keep Plus until then.
  • Deleting your account ends Plus immediately. If you delete your account while you're subscribed, the subscription is cancelled straight away and any paid time left is lost. To keep Plus until the end of the period you've paid for, cancel first and delete your account afterwards.
  • Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, you keep Plus access for a 7-day grace period while payment is retried. If it still hasn't gone through, your account returns to the free tier.
  • Refunds. Monthly plans: if you cancel, you keep access until the end of the period you've paid for, and we don't give partial refunds for the rest of that month. Annual plans: you can ask for a full refund within 14 days of your purchase or of a renewal by emailing support@hashidari.com. A full refund ends Plus access immediately. These terms don't limit any refund or withdrawal right you have under the consumer-protection law of your country that can't be waived.
  • Price changes. We may change prices for future billing periods. We will give you advance notice, and a new price applies only from your next renewal after the notice.
  • Taxes. Prices are in US dollars (Japanese yen in Japan) and include any sales tax, VAT, or similar tax we're required to collect, so the price shown is the total you pay. Checkout asks for your billing country (and, in some countries, a postal code) to work out that tax.
  • Disputes and chargebacks. If a payment is disputed with your bank, we may cancel the subscription and suspend paid access while the dispute is open.
  • Daily limits. Every tier, Plus included, has reasonable daily limits on new lessons, content requests, and searches, to pace learning and to protect the Service from automated scraping. Skipping lessons with "I already know this" is available with Plus or a free trial and has its own daily limit.

Everything you've already learned stays available for review on the free tier, even after a trial, beta period, or subscription ends.

4. Gift codes, promotions, and referrals

Gift, promotional, and referral codes have no cash value, can't be resold or exchanged for money, and may carry their own expiry dates, redemption limits, and eligibility rules. Each code can be redeemed only once per person. If you already pay for a subscription, some codes are applied as a billing credit rather than extra time. Plus subscribers may be able to create gift codes to share. We may also offer you discounts or extra time based on your plan history, for example after your Plus has ended.

Referrals. You can share a personal referral link. When someone you referred makes their first paid subscription payment, you may earn free Plus time (or a billing credit, if you already subscribe), up to 365 rewarded days in any rolling 12-month period. Self-referrals, referring your own other accounts or devices, and other abuse don't qualify. We use automated checks, including comparisons of email address, IP address, and device, to detect this. A reward may be reversed if the qualifying payment is refunded or disputed within 90 days. We may change or end the referral program at any time, without affecting rewards already earned in good faith.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • scrape, crawl, bulk-download, or systematically copy the Service, including its curriculum, lesson order, or our original content, or use automated tools to do so;
  • resell, redistribute, or build a competing product from the Service or our original content;
  • interfere with, overload, or bypass the Service's security, rate limits, or access controls, including the free-tier and daily limits;
  • create multiple accounts to get extra trials, referral rewards, or codes;
  • use the Service to break the law or infringe anyone's rights;
  • reverse engineer the Service except where the law expressly allows it.

This section doesn't limit your rights to the open data described in section 6. You can get that data from its original publishers under their licenses.

6. Content and intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, curriculum sequence, lesson presentation, and original explanations, belongs to Hashidari or its licensors. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use it for your own learning, under these Terms.

Parts of Hashidari's dictionary and example-sentence data come from open datasets published under their own licenses, including JMdict, KANJIDIC2, and KRADFILE from the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group, Tatoeba example sentences, the National Institute of Korean Language's Basic Korean Dictionary, wordfreq, and Unicode character data. We don't claim copyright over that material. It stays under its own licenses, which may give you broader rights to that data than these Terms do. See Sources & licenses.

7. Your feedback and data

Your learning progress is yours. You can export it and delete it as described in our Privacy Policy. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them to improve the Service without owing you anything.

8. Educational tool, no guarantees

Hashidari is a study aid, and it's still in active development. We work hard to get content right, but readings, meanings, Korean-bridge notes, translations, and example sentences may contain errors. We don't promise any particular learning outcome or exam result (including any JLPT level). Placement and "JLPT" labels are approximate guides, not official assessments.

9. Changes and availability

We may add, change, or remove features or content, and we may suspend or stop the Service. If we discontinue Hashidari Plus, we'll give reasonable notice and refund the unused part of any period you've already paid for. We're not liable for downtime, but we'll try to keep it minimal.

10. Suspension and termination

You can stop using the Service or delete your account at any time from Account → Privacy & data. We may suspend or close accounts that break these Terms, commit payment fraud, or abuse the Service. Where appropriate, we'll tell you why.

11. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

12. Limitation of liability

TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, HASHIDARI'S TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM RELATED TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that can't be excluded or limited under the law that applies to you.

13. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute about these Terms or the Service will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Wyoming, and you and we consent to those courts. There is no mandatory arbitration and no class-action waiver. If you use Hashidari as a consumer outside the United States, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer-protection laws of the country where you live, and nothing in these Terms takes away any right to bring a claim in your home courts that those laws give you.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. If we make material changes, we'll give notice in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated Terms.
